Islamic Social Finance Takes Center Stage as NAPC-NGOSC and M&T Hold Learning Session

2 June 2026 | Online Learning Session – The National Anti-Poverty Commission – Non-Government Organizations Sectoral Council (NAPC-NGOSC) conducted a Learning Session on Islamic Social Finance (ISF) on 2 June 2026 to deepen the understanding of Council members and civil society stakeholders on the principles, instruments, and development applications of Islamic Social Finance.

M&T Consultants, Islamic Co. (M&T) served as resource speaker and shared insights on the foundations of Islamic Social Finance, including its emphasis on social justice, shared prosperity, ethical finance, and community empowerment. The discussion covered key instruments such as Zakat, Sadaqah, Waqf, Qard al-Hasan, and Takaful, and highlighted their contributions to social welfare, financial inclusion, and sustainable development in various jurisdictions.

The engagement forms part of the broader NAPC–M&T collaboration aimed at exploring how Islamic Social Finance principles and mechanisms may complement existing poverty alleviation, social protection, and financial inclusion initiatives in the Philippines.

Participants exchanged perspectives on developments in the Philippine Islamic finance landscape and examined how Islamic Social Finance can contribute to addressing financial exclusion and supporting community-based development efforts. Drawing from international experiences and emerging practices, the discussion explored opportunities and considerations relevant to the Philippine context.

Particular attention was given to the role of non-government organizations and community-based institutions in advancing development outcomes. M&T shared perspectives on how NGOs can contribute through awareness-building, capacity development, community mobilization, and the implementation of initiatives that promote ethical and responsible financing practices.

Discussions also highlighted potential roles that civil society organizations may play in supporting Islamic Social Finance initiatives and expanding their reach among underserved communities.

The exchange underscored the importance of continued dialogue among government, civil society, academia, and development practitioners in exploring innovative and inclusive approaches to poverty reduction and sustainable development.

M&T expresses its appreciation to NAPC-NGOSC for the opportunity to contribute to the discussion and remains committed to supporting research, capacity development, and stakeholder engagement initiatives that advance the understanding and responsible application of Islamic finance in the Philippines.
