Official launching of the Women Empowerment Facility (WEF) in Cotabato City
WEF Officially Launched!
On August 22, 2025, the League of Moro Women Organization, Inc. (LMWOI), officially launched the Women Empowerment Facility (WEF) in Cotabato City. This is under the ACCELERATE Bangsamoro Program of The Asia Foundation, funded by the Australian Government, with a framework designed by M&T Consultants, Islamic Co.
WEF is more than just a facility, it serves as a strategic tool for economic empowerment. Through the Murabahah Microfinancing under WEF, the Bangsamoro women can grow and diversify their businesses in a more ethical and equitable manner.
During the design phase, the M&T Consultants Islamic Co. consulted the Bangsamoro Darul Ifta (BDI) and the Bangsamoro Women’s Commission (BWC) to ensure alignment with Shari’ah principles and the Women Economic Empowerment Policy.
Minister Atty. Ubaida Pacasem affirmed the alignment of this initiative with the Islamic Finance Roadmap developed through the Ministry of Finance, Budget, and Management (MFBM). The Office of the Chief Minister’s Strategic Communications Offices also mentioned its coherence with the Bangsamoro Government’s priority agenda in digital governance, revenue generation, social protection, and peace and security.
Key ministries with livelihood programs, the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism (MTIT), the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), and the Cooperative and Social Enterprise Authority (CSEA) also delivered their messages supporting the facility.
Representatives from the Local Government Unit of Cotabato City through its Negosyo Center, UN agencies, international NGOs, civil society organizations, cooperatives, and the private sector also attended the Launching activity – demonstrating their commitment to building a financially inclusive, equitable, and socially responsive Islamic finance ecosystem that empowers Bangsamoro communities through accessible and sustainable solutions.
